Marc Williams
Marc spent the past 10 years as a “Marketing Guru”, Sports Marketing Pioneer and Pop Culture Expert. He worked for three of the largest sports brands in the world: Champs Sports, Footaction and Reebok. He is widely regarded as one of the nation’s foremost experts on branding, sports marketing, consumer behavior and hip-hop culture.
Professional Achievements
Marc is the former Global Brand Director for Champs Sports, a division of Foot Locker and the largest Athletic Retailer in the world. Williams was in charge of global marketing and spearheaded progressive growth and profits to help Champs Sports become a $1 billion footwear and apparel brand with 600 retail stores in the US and Canada. Throughout his stellar career, he initiated many ground-breaking deals in Sports Retail. He was instrumental in negotiating the first Sports Retail Global campaign for the Hip Hop industry by signing a deal with Ruff Ryder Records and Grammy Award Winner Eve. He led a team that created College Football’s Champs Sports Bowl, cultivated a sponsorship with NBC Sports to be the official retail sponsor for the Arena Football League and was instrumental in helping to start the most successful grassroots basketball tours of our time; the And 1 Mix tape tour. Marc has worked with many prominent sports and entertainment icons such as: Will Farrell, Jay Z, Gwen Stefani, Chris Rock, Chris Brown, Eve, Dewayne Wade, Outkast, Jermaine Dupri, Bon Jovi, Venus Williams and Actor Pooch Hall–who plays the character Derwin Davis of the popular television show “The Game.”
Personal Achievements
Williams has appeared on ESPN, CNN, BET’s 106 & Park and MTV. He was on the cover of: Billboard Magazine, Black College Sports Today and The Network Journal. Marc was selected to Sports Illustrated’s Top 101 Minorities in Sports and Man of The Year” by Black Men’s Magazine. Most recently, Marc was voted by CNN as one of the “Top 10 College Motivational Speakers” in the United States.
The Entrepreneur
Marc is the founder and CEO of an award-winning brand management consulting firm, Williams Communications, LLC. It is a full-service marketing firm specializing in event marketing, sports/entertainment, talent management, and brand development. Some of his clients are: The NCAA, West Virginia University, Loras College, Morgan State University Department of Athletics and Delaware State University Department of Athletics. The company serves as the Brand Strategist for ESPN’s Sportscenter Anchor Jay Harris. Williams Communications received a NCAA Grant focusing on empowering student athletes at Historically Black Universities, providing them with personal and professional development.
Charitable Endeavors
Marc Williams is committed to empowering and inspiring our youth. He has served on the Board Directors for the Children’s Dream Fund. He has worked on fundraising committees for Save the Children, The Simon Youth Foundation, and Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Foundation After School All Stars by helping to spearhead donation efforts to benefit their educational initiatives.
Education
Currently, Marc is a Visiting Lecturer at Loras College in Dubuque, Iowa co teaching Sports Marketing. Williams is also a full time doctoral student in the Interdisciplinary Education program at West Virginia University College of Human Resources and Education. Marc holds a B.S. in Sociology from William Paterson University and a master’s degree in Sport Management from the prestigious Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
