There have been many great leaders throughout history. Some have worked tirelessly to improve their community; some have even influenced others in a way that changed the world. These men have made their way into the history books by earning the respect of others through their words, actions and qualities. It is this that made them worthy of following.
Martin Luther King Jr. was a great national leader, who has gained worldwide respect for his contributions to the Civil Rights movement here in the United States. King believed all men were created equal regardless of race. He fought tirelessly to make changes when many were too afraid and/or ignorant to stand up for what was right. Martin Luther King met adversity every day, but he did not give up, or give in to threats of hatred. For this self-less leadership, King is celebrated today.
